August 12th – Haha’ione School Traffic Awareness Sign Waving Project
The Community Policing Team of District 7 East Honolulu led by Corporal John Mau, once again asked the Hawaii Kai Lions for assistance in promoting safe and responsible driving around our schools. We are proud to say that this sign waving project has been a successful joint effort at our Hawaii Kai schools for many years.
On August 12, 2021, ten Lions met at Hahaione School at 7:15am to receive instructions and signs. They then joined HPD Officers John Mau and Officer Kaimi Kellett in sign waving for approximately one hour. The signs bore different safety messages including “No Need to Speed”, “No Texting While Driving”, “Drunk Driving is Deadly”, and “No Second Chance”.
Lions participating in this event included Cynthia Chun, Ellsworth Fujii, Yolisa Ishibashi, David Iwana, John Kratochvil, Marja Leivo, Frances Lum, Ken Nishibun, Peggy Oyama, and Appan Subramanian.
Principal Shannon “Cappy” Goo spoke to our group and expressed how he really appreciated thework of the HPD and the Hawaii Kai Lions in continuing this very worthwhile project especially during these stressful COVID times.
