August 25th – Yoga Mats for Koko Head Elementary School
When Koko Head Elementary School learned that the Hawaii Kai Lions Club had some funds that could be used to purchase needed supplies and equipment, Principal Jeffrey Shitaoka asked for thirty yoga mats. Yoga is a practice that can help improve both the mind and body, and it is integrated into Koko Head Elementary School’s curriculum. The entire student body – 335 students – take yoga classes and enjoy it. When the mats were delivered, Principal Shitaoka was excited, and he struck a tree pose; his staff, Celise Nakakura and Sydnee Halcro, later joined in.
