January 20th – Hawaii Kai Lions Patch Sidewalk Cracks on Kealahou Street
On January 20, 2024, six Hawaii Kai Lions, one CIS, and the District 50 Safe Sidewalks Chair patched 34 sites/sidewalk cracks on Kealahou Street in Kalama Valley. Scott Goto, from the City’s Division of Road Maintenance’s Malama O Ka Aina (MOKA) community volunteer program, was present and provided guidance to the two teams of four. Starting from opposite ends of Kealahou Street, from Mokuhano Street and the intersection of Hawaii Kai Drive, the teams worked from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Lions participating in this event included Kendrick Chang, Ellsworth Fujii, Alvin Hayashibara, Yolisa Ishibashi, Frances Lum, CIS Lyn Yee, Trevor Yee, and District 50 Safe Sidewalks Chair Jerry Nagatani.
Thank you to those Lions, CIS, and District 50 Safe Sidewalks Chair who volunteered for this ongoing project. Many residents were walking on the sidewalk fronting Kalama Village Shopping Center on Kealahou Street and appeared appreciative towards our efforts. We were also surprised by Star Advertiser’s photographer, Craig Kojima, taking several pictures of us working so diligently, with one of the pictures being featured on the front page of the local section of the newspaper. Kudos to our Hawaii Kai Lions Club!
