President’s Message – September 2011
The kids are back in school, Summer is coming to a close already and Labor Day Weekend is nearing. And that means The Lions Club Vision Screening program is gearing up to test our keiki for potential vision problems. Sorry to say that I have not participated in these projects before. But this year and I am going to try and help at as many as possible in our zone. Lion Ralph has 10 sign-up sheets posted for this fall. This is such an important part of The Lion Club’s mission that the District is working on a pin for members that participate in these projects. More on that program as its final requirements are approved by the DG.
Pins, did I say pins? Lion Tommy’s Membership Moments talk at our last meeting got all choked up and thinking that I need a spare pin in my glove compartment. OFFICIAL NOTICE: Catch me in a collared shirt during my term without a Lions Pin and I’ll pay a $2 fine to the club admin fund. Thanks Tommy for the reminder and to Membership Chair Lion Troy for keeping membership at the forefront of our club culture.
Flash Report in from Secretary Keith that the Diamond Head Club’s Bon Dance got off on time due to the assistance of Walter Kuroiwa, PDG Roy Aoki, Tommy Chun, Keith Katsuda and Stan Ito who helped put up tents, set up and cover folding tables, haul chairs, and string the lights for that evening’s festivities. Thanks for helping out the Diamond Head Club while I was on Maui, wearing my pin!
TAKE A WALK……..for The HLF “Walk for Lions” is scheduled for Sun, Sep 18, 2011. 7:30-10:00 AM Ala Moana Park (sign-up for walkers) PDG Mervin Wee is our project chair for this event. Merv said, “Money talks and I’ll take your walk.” My check’s in the mail Merv, but I may walk too!
More walking? It’s good for your health. The Ho`opono White Cane Walk will be held on Friday October 14 starting at 10:00 am. Keep your heart rate up for a good cause.
Lion Bill Modglin has invited a true blue buddy to join the club. Soon to be Lion Ken Bates is true “Cub Scout Blue”. Looking forward to all of practicing our orientation, mentoring and fellowships skills with him.
Lastly, the Lions Learning Center site is up and running on the web. Thanks to Lion Ken for sending out the email with the link to the site. I am looking forward to graduating already. I invite Lion Walter A. (for analog) Kuroiwa and any other Lions who want to practice their On Line Learning Skills to come on up the hill and study with me on my big screen TV!!
See you in September
